The music for a movie or TV show can often make or break the final product, as the choice of songs can add just the right feeling to each scene.

For a movie like Metal Lords, which is a love letter to all things heavy metal, the use of music is absolutely vital and so the movie uses a lot of head-banging tracks.

Metal Lords release date and plot preview

Written and directed by The iron Throne’ DB Weiss, Metal Lords made its way to Netflix on Friday, April 8, 2022.

The film tells the story of two high school teenagers, Kevin and Hunter, who start a heavy metal band at a school where they are the only two heavy metal fans.

Needing a bassist for their newly formed band, budding cellist Emily might be just the addition the band needs.

With the next Battle of the Bands competition looming on the horizon, the trio must weather the trials and tribulations of school, hormones, and teenage angst long enough to succeed.

As a movie about heavy metal, it’s only fitting that Metal Lords would have a soundtrack full of iconic songs from the genre.

Creation of the original song Machinery of Torment

Along with using a slew of licensed songs and a plethora of covers, Metal Lords also features an all-new original song created specifically for the film.

This song is Machines of Torment and it’s the work of DB Weiss, Carl Restivo and Tom Morello.

Speaking as part of a Netflix press release, writer and producer DB Weiss said: “Tom wrote the song. Carl Restivo engineered it. I wrote the stupid lyrics.

Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello went into a bit more detail about how the song came about.

“Dan gave me the title and some lyrical suggestions,” he explained. “It was so great to get myself back into that headspace, when I was just playing Randy Rhoads licks and Iron Maiden and Priest and Sabbath knowing ‘It’s not going to be a hard rock, hip- hop or a hard rock/EDM hybrid. This is a real jam of metal. ”

“When something is done with love and authenticity, there’s no way it could come across as a travesty,” he continued. “I was really leading the band in this movie when they wrote this song.”

“I know what it means to want to write a song that pisses off the administration and pisses off your classmates and lets them know that this ‘torment machinery’ is what you’re going to grind them.

“So when you come from that perspective, the rest just fell into place very easily with the riffs and the arrangement of the melody.”

Metal Lords is available to stream now on Netflix after releasing on Friday, April 8, 2022.
