HONKNYC! The festival returns this month with music, dancing and more

The 16th Annual HONK NYC! The festival returns October 11-19 to celebrate the city’s resilience in the face of COVID-19 with music, dance and art that showcase New York culture.

HONKNYC! produces an annual week-long festival each October, partners with local business improvement districts and cultural institutions for immersive concerts, events and activations that reclaim, reuse and redefine public space, celebrating the power and vitality of street performance. Funded in part by the New York Department of Transportation, Staten Island Arts and Maker Park Radio, the nine-day festival crosses Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island with live street bands, New York-based artists and interactive experiences that encourage viewers to become honorary members of the party band.

This year, HONK eagerly presents the New York premiere of Banda Rim Ram Bum, from Santiago, Chile, fusing the indigenous Andean sounds of Tinku and Diablada with cumbia, Afro-Latin rhythms, carnival and salsa in a celebration of latin culture. Another band making their New York premiere is the Young Fellaz Brass Band, from New Orleans, Louisiana, with their authentic New Orleans Second Line experience. In addition to these outside groups, HONK NYC! 2022 will feature New York-based artists whose work focuses on preserving, interpreting and reinventing street music traditions from the cultural expressions of the BIPOC diaspora.
