Singer Rex Orange County charged with sexual assault – Reuters


British musician Rex Orange County is facing sexual assault charges.

The singer-songwriter, real name Alexander O’Connor, was recently charged with six counts of sexually assaulting a woman.

According to editors at The Sun, the 24-year-old was charged with assaulting a woman twice in London’s West End on June 1 and then four times the following day. The subsequent incidents are alleged to have taken place in a taxi and at his home in Notting Hill.

O’Connor appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Monday to plead not guilty to all six counts and was released on full bail.

“Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” a rep for the musician said in a statement. “He is unable to comment further due to ongoing proceedings.”

A provisional trial date has been set for January 3, 2023.

O’Connor canceled her upcoming tour dates in Australia, New Zealand and Europe due to “unforeseen personal circumstances” in July. He said he “had to hang out at home this year” and that he “wouldn’t be able to continue the tour as planned”.

O’Connor began his rise to fame in 2015 when he self-released his debut album, Bcos U Will Never B Free, a record that caught the attention of rapper Tyler, the creator, leading him to work on the hip-hop star. Record 2017, Flower Boy.

He has also collaborated with artists such as Randy Newman and Chance the Rapper.
