Smash & Grab Victim was at Miller Dance Studio for a minute when the man stole the purse

The victim of a shameless smash outside Miller Street Dance Academy told authorities she was only gone for a minute on Thursday afternoon when the crime happened.

When the woman returned to her 2021 Mazda CX-5, her window was smashed and her black Michael Kors handbag was missing, according to a report. The car was parked behind the studio on Market Street in the village of Baxter in Fort Mill.

A witness told officers she saw a black man with loose jeans break into the vehicle and take the purse.

“The witness testified that she saw the subject get into a gray sedan with a Florida tag and take off,” a report said. “The witness said he saw the trunk open as he walked away. She believes the subject was driving but is not sure.

Deputies observed four attempts to break the driver’s front window. The left rear passenger window was eventually smashed to gain access to the interior.

“No video cameras were seen or observed facing the scene of the incident,” a report said.

Inside the victim’s $400 purse were two checkbooks, two debit cards, two credit cards, a South Carolina driver’s license, a medical card, a Home Depot card, a Sam card. and $8 cash.
