Vancouver Island hip-hop dance duo Funkanometry wowed audiences in downtown Parksville on Friday afternoon (July 23).
Jacksun Fryer, 18, of Nanaimo, and Carlow Rush, 19, who are an award-winning and internationally renowned dance duo, were in town to create a promotional video with Mid-Island Co-op for the launch of their new Ice cream counter at the corner of Corfield Street and Island Highway.

âThe co-op contacted us,â Rush said.
âAnd they wanted to do a partnership, so we’re doing a giveaway,â Fryer said.
The couple said they were both excited to be working with the company and were open to ideas on what the promotional video might look like.
âIt was pretty cool – we got to do something with a sick old Mercedes. We hadn’t really planned on that. A lady just asked us if we wanted to use it, which was pretty cool,â said Rush.
Promotional content is nothing new to Funkanométrie, which has worked with Tim Hortons and The Da Vinci Experience in the past. But if it’s for a business on Vancouver Island or the Lower Mainland that they’re supporting, they’re likely to participate.
“And the point is, we don’t do them much differently from a regular video, do we?” We’ve talked about it and we don’t want it to sound like we’re doing it for something – obviously that will have to happen because sometimes you have to, âFryer said.
âBut when it’s natural or in a cool place, we’d probably shoot there anyway,â Rush said.
Funkanometry has nearly 400,000 subscribers on the TikTok social media platform and in 2019 they starred in the third season of the “World of Dance” television series.
The duo said they have plenty of plans for the future, including an underwear audition – but for now, they intend to keep their cards close to his chest.
âI guess you’ll just have to log in to find out,â Rush said.
